- Archaeology, or archeology, is the study of human activity in the past, primarily through the recovery and analysis of the material culture and environmental data that they have left behind, which includes artifacts, architecture, biofacts (also known as eco-facts) and cultural landscapes (the archaeological record).

Eligibility:
Those who want to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology should have studied history as a subject in 10+2. After graduation one can opt for a Post graduate Diploma or Degree course in Archaeology. Graduates in History in any stream with an aggregate of 55% marks can apply for Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma or Post graduation (MA/ M.Sc.) in different fields of Archaeology. Duration of these courses may vary from 1 year to 2 years.

Job prospects:
- The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is the major recruiter for archaeologists in the country both at the centre and at the state levels as well. Students who are eligible can apply for suitable positions with ASI after qualifying the examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) or by State Public Service Commission’s (SPSC).
- Archaeologists also have the option to take up a job in government or privately owned museums for the safe upkeep and management of museum artefacts.
