  • Anthropology is the study of humankind, past and present, that draws and builds upon knowledge from the social sciences and biological sciences, as well as the humanities and the natural sciences.
  • An anthropologist is a person with an extensive knowledge of anthropology who uses this knowledge in their work, typically to solve problems specific to humanity.
  • Anthropology is concerned with studying the subject matter of fields such as philosophical anthropology, archaeological anthropology, sociocultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, literary anthropology, as well as biological anthropology and forensic anthropology.

Eligibility:

The subjects that need to be taken after class 10th to pursue anthropology as a career option are:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology and
  • Mathematics.

For admission into bachelor’s degree program a student must pass higher secondary education or 10+2 with biology as the subject and minimum of 50% marks from any Institute/university. The duration of the program is of 3 years.

  • Those who want to pursue a career in the field of anthropology have multiple career options. Anthropological Survey of India is the major recruiter for anthropologists in the country both at the centre and at the state levels as well. Several government research institutes employ anthropologists.
  • Even international agencies like UNICEF, UNESCO and WHO also recruit anthropologists too carry out research activities. Other sectors where anthropologists can be employed are art galleries, curators, publishing houses, NGOs, archives, museums and libraries.
