Son of a casual labour and hundred percent visually disabled, Irfan has now completed 14 years at National Institute for Visually Handicapped Children, Dehradun Utrakhand, and is planning to join Delhi University for higher studies.
A visually impaired boy from Naidkhai in Bandipora district has brought laurels to his family by scoring 91 per cent marks in the CBSE exam, result of which was declared on Saturday. Irfan Ahmad Lone, 21, son of Bashir Ahmad Lone scored 455 out of 500 marks in 12th class exam.
Son of a casual labour and hundred percent visually disabled, Irfan has now completed 14 years at National Institute for Visually Handicapped Children, Dehradun Utrakhand, and is planning to join Delhi University for higher studies.
“At the age of around 3 years, he accidently lost his left eye while playing with a syringe at his home. At the age of 6 we admitted him in a local government school where he lost right eye while playing with a pencil,” said his father Bashir Ahmad.
Bashir said that he took his son to every hospital of the valley including SKIMS for treatment to get his eyesight back but all in vain. “After exhausting all efforts a relative asked me to admit him at National Institute for Visually Handicapped Children, Dehradun, for studies.”
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Irfan said that he wants to join Delhi University for higher studies and wants to help visually impaired people like him after completing his studies.
“If we are handicapped that doesn’t mean we should lose hope. I never felt any handicap. I think I would have got the same marks had I been able to see,” Irfan said.
