Exams can put one under immense pressure. Maintain a healthy eating, sleeping and studying schedule to give your best.

These days, with exams in full swing, the stress level of students and parents alike is skyrocketing. It is very important for students to minimise their stress levels in order to make learning easier and raise their performance. Student stress management needs to be handled effectively through stress relief tips, tools and techniques. These are simple methods but if used correctly they are very helpful in managing stress.

Time management

The most important strategy in stress management of any kind is time management. Learn to plan well in advance. Set up a schedule for study.

  • Understand the value of your time.
  • Use a task diary in which you write down all your important work in an order of priority.
  • Use a daily planner. Keep track of your study schedule so that you remain organised.
  • Set reminders for your schedule.
  • Understand procrastination and step away from a habit of being lazy.

Get organised

Cleanse your mind of some of the mental disorganisation:

  • Keeping track of assignments is recommended.
  • Cleanse the mental clutter.
  • Maintain a calendar system for scheduled assignment.

This will help in reducing stress as everything becomes more accessible. It gives peace of mind knowing where everything is.

Study environment

A peaceful environment reduces stress and whatever you study assimilates well.

Essential oils are good stress relievers and so is classical music. Use these tools to facilitate your study. Clutter causes stress which in turn decreases productivity. Students living in a cluttered space definitely impact their grades negatively as clutter has a direct impact on negative stress. Keep your study area free of clutter and see yourself more successful. Finding a good study space is very important. Create an atmosphere that facilitates your studies. Studying rules are unique to each of us. Some enjoy a very quiet space while others want music around. You need to go flow with your own temperament.

Study pattern

We all study according to our inherent style. We are all different types of learners. We could be visual, kinesthetic or auditory. Tailor your study pattern along with your personal style of learning and make success easier. Assess your personal style.

Try visualisation

Imagine yourself achieving goals. This is the most direct way of improving your performance. Take a few minutes off from everything and visualise for yourself what you want to make happen. Visualisation calms you down and detaches you from most of your stressors. You can visualise to score higher and stress less. You need to prepare for success this is a great way of doing it.

Positive affirmations

Give yourself positive messages. Every failure is a learning experience and an important step towards future success. You need to maximise success and minimise failure in your thoughts.

Give powerful messages to yourself by affirming sentences you desire.

Sleep enough

In order for your performance to be optimum you need to feel properly rested. Sleep deprived people have memory issues. Tired minds have lower retentive thoughts.

Use power naps as instant energy boosters. A small quick 15 minutes nap refreshes you for a whole new performance level.

Breathing exercises

A great way to calm down when under extreme stress. During examinations if the anxiety level goes high and it feels overwhelming, taking a few deep breaths proves to be a very effective calming influence.

Eat right

Diet is one of the greatest brain boosters. A good diet raises energy and a poor ones saps it. A healthy diet works as a great stress management technique. Skipping meals or junk food would be unhealthy.

Exams are a short term affair and examination stress only tends to build up if we have allowed stress to slowly creep into our lives due to unhealthy ways. If a student maintains regularity in all aspects of his life stress will not take over. Stress relieving habits need to be an ongoing habit. My personal advice to all students would be to maintain an ongoing healthy habit schedule.
